Apple Torte
Shirley Cook, Lena

4–5 cups sliced apples
Crumb Mixture:
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups oatmeal
2 cups flour
3/4 cup soft butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Topping:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
2-1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix all crumb ingredients together. Reserve 1 cup of crumb mixture and place the remaining in the bottom of a 9-x13-x2-inch pan. Layer the apples over the crumb mixture. Mix all topping ingredients together and cook until thick. Pour over apples. Sprinkle with reserved 1 cup of crumb mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Note: Sometimes I add blackberries with the apples. I also use this with rhubarb.
