Melt brown sugar, water, and butter together until it bubbles. Add salt and baking soda. Continue to boil until mixture becomes a paste; then add 2 quarts milk. When it comes to a boil, thicken with one (1) of the following mixtures:
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup cornstarch
2 eggs, beaten
Mix above 3 ingredients, adding a little extra milk. Add to pudding; stirring until it boils.
1 cup ClearJel or Perma Flo
Mix ClearJel or Perma Flo with water; mix into pudding mixture. Cover with plastic wrap (against the pudding) to cool.
