Croatian Wine Bread
Carol Witek, Janesville

1 cup scalded milk
1 cup shortening
3 eggs
1 Tbsp. yeast
3 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
4 cups flour

Mix all. Refrigerate for one hour. Roll dough out into a rectangle and put on a sheet pan or cookie sheet before putting filling in. Put filling down the center 1/3 of the pan (the long way) and fold sides over. Bake at 375 degrees for 20–30 minutes. For frosting, I use cream cheese, butter, almond and vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and half & half to desired consistency. Spread on rolls while they are warm.

Poppy Seed Filling:
12 oz. can poppy seeds
1 egg, mixed
1/4 cup honey
Raisins (optional)

Warm ingredients on stove to cook egg and melt honey.

Walnut Filling:
1 lb. walnuts
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar or honey
1 egg
Raisins (optional)

Cook walnuts and all ingredients on stove. Let cool slightly.
