Microwave version:
Lightly grease a 13- x 9-inch or 9-inch square pan. Microwave
butter in a 4 quart microwavable or casserole dish on high
for 1 minute or until melted. Add sugar and milk; mix well.
Microwave on high for 5 minutes or until mixture begins
to boil, stirring after 3 minutes. Mix well and scrape the
bowl. Microwave on high for 5-1/2 minutes, stirring after
3 minutes. Gradually stir in chocolate chips until melted.
Add the remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into prepared
pan and cool at room temperature. Cut into squares. Makes
3 pounds.
Top-of-stove version:
Prepare pan as directed. Mix margarine, sugar, and milk
in a heavy 2-1/2 to 3 quart saucepan, bring to a boil on
medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil 5 minutes or until
candy thermometer reaches 234 degrees F, stirring constantly
to prevent scorching. Remove from heat. Gradually stir in
chocolate chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients
and mix well. Pour into the prepared pan; cool at room temperature.
