Heath Candy Bars
Bonita Horacek, Abbotsford

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup finely chopped pecans

Put wax paper in a 15-x10-x1-inch pan. In a 2-quart sauce pan, combine sugar and butter. Cook over low heat until 300 degrees (about 30 minutes). Put in the pan quickly. Melt chocolate in a microwave-safe dish. Cook 20–30 seconds at 50% power; stir and repeat the process until the chocolate begins to melt. Then reduce cooking time to 5–10 seconds, stirring in between. Spread chocolate over hot candy. Sprinkle with nuts.
