Jane Chulafich, Fennimore

3 sticks butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups white sugar
1 cup molasses
3 eggs
1 tsp. salt
6 tsp. baking soda
3 tsp. cinnamon
3 tsp. ginger
7-1/2 cups flour
Frosting:
1/2 stick butter
1/4 cup Crisco
3 to 3-1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix first 9 ingredients; then add flour and blend well. Chill the dough for a couple hours or overnight before baking. Scoop dough with a cookie scoop and flatten cookie.  Bake at 375 degrees for 10–12 minutes. Makes a large batch. For frosting, mix all frosting ingredients together. Add a little milk to get the right consistency. Frost cookies when cooled.
