Mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt in saucepan.
Add boiling water and cook 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and add butter and nutmeg. Serve warm with
apple dumplings or fruit puddings. Makes 1-1/3 cups.
Cinnamon Sauce: Substitute 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
for nutmeg; mix with the sugar.
Vanilla Sauce: Substitute 1 tsp. vanilla
for nutmeg.
