  Sweet and Sour Cabbage
George Stone, Colfax

1/2 head of red or green cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
1 lb. potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch slices
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup white wine or dry sherry
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tsp. caraway seeds
1/4 tsp. ground allspice

Layer cabbage, potatoes, and onion in a slow cooker. In a bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients; pour over cabbage mix. Cook on low for 6–8 hours. This is good with a pork roast or boiled beef tongue.
